Making Overtures

In music, an Overture is an orchestral composition that forms the prelude or introduction to an opera, oratorio or musical, and CCCO’s program, Making Overtures is, literally, a prelude to our new season. The program showcases overtures in a wide variety of musical styles and spanning the centuries,  from late 18th century works by Gluck and Mozart, to early 19th century works by Beethoven, Rossini and Schubert, and works from the mid-late 1800’s  by Glinka and Offenbach, to a modern overture by young Spanish film composer Oscar Navarro.
